In the Fall of 202X, hauntings suddenly increased, with ghostly sightings and paranormal encounters becoming commonplace globally. 

However, this increase in sightings was paired with ghosts becoming more aggressive, forcing many buildings to be abandoned as people fled from the violent spirits that lurked in the dark corners.

Seeing a chance to profit, a mysterious venture capital company launched Pöltr, a gig economy app that allows anyone to become a freelance ghost removal technician. 

The process is simple:

1. Make an account
2. Pick a ghost removal job
3. Head out to find and dispel the spirit. 
4. Get cash

Despite the low pay and the dangerous nature of the work, millions of users signed up, all hoping they could scrape together enough money to pay their bills. However, many ghosts won't leave quietly, and the firm behind Pöltr will do whatever it can to avoid paying out. 

You are one of those users. Joining the platform to earn enough to cover this month's rent, no matter the risks. 

Will you be able to scrape together the cash, or will the spirits subject you to an even worse fate? 

Pöltr is a solo journaling game about being a freelance ghost buster trapped in the gig economy. 

Each round, you'll use a deck of cards to create a new location before exploring it, trying to track down the ghost that haunts the area. 

While you do this, you'll need to manage your resistance and cash reserves. If your resistance drops too low, the wandering spirits will attack, forcing you to flee the job, forgoing your pay as you do. But if you run out of cash, you won't be able to keep on top of your bills.

When you locate the restless spirit, you must banish it before it can attack you. In Pöltr, you banish ghosts by cleaning a dry-erase board or digital canvas as fast as possible, leading to a pulse-pounding race against the clock as the specter slowly drains your resistance. 

To play, you'll need: 

• Deck of playing cards

• Two D6

• A Way to keep a journal

• Wiping Surface

• Timing method

• A Token

There are two options for the Wiping Surface: 

Physical Option: This method uses an A4 dry-erase board. Cover the board totally in black dry-erase ink. Use a small eraser to clean the ink off the board. 

Digital Option: This method uses a drawing or photo editing program installed on a computer or tablet. Bucket-fill an A4 canvas with one color. Then, use the eraser tool (at its default size) to clean the canvas, using your mouse, finger, or a stylus to control the eraser.
