Persona Drive is an open, setting-neutral TTRPG system that is designed to support many different narrative games.

It can be used for groups of 2 players or above and can be run with or without a facilitator.

It is designed to be easily hackable so that others can use it to create games.

As part of this hackability, the game is licensed with a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license, allowing you to do whatever you wish with the game, provided you attribute it.

Rather than using an abstract character sheet, Persona Drive characters are made up of statements that describe them and their abilities.

Each character has 3 types of statement:

  • Am Statements (Core parts of the character) [e.g. "I am very strong"]
  • Can Statements (Situational skills) [e.g. "I can run very fast when under stress"]
  • Must Statements (Rules you must follow) [e.g. "I must eat cake whenever I'm offered it"]

This system allows for varied characters with many different skills.

It also allows players to seamlessly fuse character abilities and roleplay beats.

Because the statements are written sentences, players can use narrative fiction as their character sheet, allowing them to work their character's abilities into their backstory.

This statement system also extends to items, NPCs, and the environment, allowing game facilitators to efficiently write compelling and interactive worlds without complex statting systems.

A simple token system and a fail-forward system allow players to take control of the narrative. Using these systems in tandem allows every table to play the type of game they want to play.
